GRIMES DEFEATS MCCONNELL’S RUSTED WASHINGTON MACHINE AGAIN
Overwhelming Grassroots Coalition Outraises McConnell With Over $2.7 Million
FRANKFORT – Today, Alison for Kentucky is proud to announce our campaign has raised over $2.7 million in the first quarter of 2014, surpassing Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s “best fundraising quarter of the cycle” for a second time.
To date, the Grimes campaign has raised nearly $7.3 million from almost 45,000 individual grassroots supporters with a median contribution of $25. Nearly 53,000 of our campaign’s contributions thus far have been under $50.
As the McConnell campaign burnt 120 percent of the money raised this past quarter, our campaign has built a war chest of almost $5 million, equipping us with the resources needed to win this race. Furthermore, our campaign has already nearly tied or exceeded the total individual amounts raised by either of Kentucky’s general election U.S. Senate campaigns in the entire 2010 cycle.
“Grassroots supporters from all 120 Kentucky counties have invested in our campaign, demonstrating the growing excitement from Democrats, Republicans and Independents to elect a leader who will bring a fresh, bold vision to the U.S. Senate,” Grimes senior adviser Jonathan Hurst said Tuesday morning. “Alison’s focus on creating good-paying jobs and strengthening the middle class is clearly resonating with Kentuckians, and our supporters understand the importance of ensuring our positive message for Kentucky’s future reaches all corners of the Commonwealth over the coming seven months.”
Alison shared this exciting campaign update with supporters earlier today. The news comes on the heels of a thirteenth recent poll showing Alison tied or ahead of Mitch McConnell.
